The number of hair grafts needed for hair transplant depends on the extent of your hair loss and the density you desire to have. Graft requirements vary from patient-to-patient and are determined only after a detailed scalp evaluation at a hair transplant clinic.
Hair graft numbers depend on the size of your bald or thinning areas, as well as your hair thickness and density goals. If your goal is just hairline correction, you may need between 1000 and 1500 hair grafts. For moderate to advanced hair loss corrections, you may need more than 3000 grafts.
Each hair graft usually consists of one to four hair follicles. This contributes to the overall density and post-procedure visual coverage. Proper planning is needed at this stage to avoid overharvesting the donor area while also making sure an optimal number of grafts are implanted in the recipient area.
