Hair Transplant Guide

Confidence is the most powerful emotion that decides how you will live your life. From landing a job to dealing with personal stuff, everything requires confidence. Additionally, making the best first impression is the way to leave an impact on the world. When it comes to confidence and first impression, hairstyle plays a major role. It is one of the first things people notice in a person and judge them. Therefore, it is important to always be “ON POINT”.

Physically, hair plays a major role in protecting your scalp from sun and dust and maintaining the right body temperature. Emotionally, hair reflects who you are, how others see you, and how you feel about yourself.

This guide will answer all your questions related to hair, hair loss, and whether you are the right candidate for a hair transplant or not.

What Is Hair & How Does It Grow

Hair is made up of Keratin, a touch protein produced in the body. Hair has two major components- The hair Shaft and the Hair Follicle. The hair Shaft is the hair that is visually seen on the scalp, and the Hair Follicle is a narrow tube present in the skin that promotes the growth of the hair shaft.

Hair Growth has a good resemblance with a plant pot. Here, the hair shaft is the plant, and the hair follicle is the soil in the pot from which the plant grows. The hair shaft grows from the cell present at the follicle’s base. With time, the cell multiplies itself and grows upwards, popping out of the narrow tube present in the skin. These cells are nourished by blood vessels, and certain hormones promote hair growth.

Hair Growth Cycle consists of 3 Stages:

  • Anagen: Anagen is the growth or active stage of hair growth, where the formation of new hair occurs. The new growing hair pushes out the old hair in the follicles, and hair in this stage stays on the scalp for 2-5 years. Most hair (80%-90%) can grow at any given time and stays on the scalp for a longer period.
  • Catagen: Catagen is the transitional stage, where the hair growth can slow down or stop because the hair follicles shrink. This stage can last for 2-3 weeks, and about 3% of hair follicles present are in this stage at a particular time.
  • Telogen: Telogen is the resting stage of hair growth, where hair follicles are resting, and they stop growing and get detached or pulled out from the scalp. This stage can last for 100 days, and about 10%-15% of hair follicles present are in this stage at a single time.

Overview of Hair Loss

People usually get confused between Shedding and Hair Loss, but they both are totally different. Shedding is a part of the normal hair growth cycle, and everyone normally sheds between 50-100 hairs in a day. It could happen while brushing or washing. There are no alarming reasons behind it, and it is a healthy loss, where the old hair is pushed out, and the new hair takes its place. Sometimes a few hair follicles might stop producing new hair, and the hair shedding rate becomes faster. It may lead to hair loss.

Hair Loss occurs because of other factors like nutritional imbalance, heredity, illness, and excessive use of heat. When the healthy hair follicles or normal hair growth cycle got disrupted, it can lead to hair loss. In most cases, the effects of hair loss can be reversed, and normal hair growth can be attained by removing the triggering factor. But when the factor can't be reversed on its own, medical help is required.

Hair Growth Cycle consists of 3 Stages:

  • Everyone sheds between 50-100 hairs every day in a normal hair growth cycle.
  • By 40 years of age, 55% of men notice hair loss problems.
  • About 95% of hair loss problems are genetic.
  • The hormone responsible for hair loss is also the reason for acne and oily skin problems.

Throughout a person's lifespan, the hair follicles perform between 25-30 cycles. When these hair growth cycles are accelerated, a person suffers from androgenetic alopecia or baldness. Initially, it is because of hormonal imbalance, and the hairs are forced to enter the telogen or rest stage, but with time, it starts preventing hair follicles from producing good quality keratin. It is a vicious circle where the hair growth cycle becomes shorter, and the hair quality decreases. If it lasts for longer and the cycle becomes exhausted, the hair will stop growing accurately.

Causes of Hair Loss

Both men and women experience hair loss, although it is more frequent and perhaps more noticeable in men.

Androgenetic Alopecia

The most common reason for noticing hair loss and baldness is genetics. Over 90% of men and women who complain about hair loss problems face changes in ‘Andro’ hormone levels, a trait that is inherited from their parents (‘Genetic’).

Androgens hormone is involved in Androgenetic Alopecia. When the levels of androgen increase, it causes shortening of hair growth Anagen stage and delays the new hair growth. The proportions of follicles also shrink and start producing hairs that are barely visible and have no pigment. If you carry this genetic marker or trait, you might suffer from hair loss problems.

The hair loss occurs in male and female pattern hair loss or male pattern baldness in Androgens alopecia. It can begin at any time after a person enters puberty and becomes more progressive with growing age.

Hair loss may also be a temporary reaction to a trigger that improves once it is removed and hair growth returns to its normal pattern. Some triggers can’t be reversed without medical help. The temporary increase in shedding occurs 2-4 months after the trigger event and may last for several months or can be ongoing.

Reversible Hair Loss Triggers are:

  1. Stress: Stress can cause hundreds of health problems, and hair loss is one of them. Losing hair is very common in stress, or if you already have a hair loss problem, stress can increase the pace of losing hair.
  2. Poor Diet: Not offering enough nutrients to the body that defines hair growth may cause hair loss. A poor diet with insufficient protein, a major component of hair development, can inhibit hair follicle growth.
  3. Smoking: Smoking decreases the oxygen and increases carbon monoxide in the blood. When supplied to your scalp, this impurified can damage your hair follicles.
  4. Hormonal Imbalance: Hormonal Imbalance is the temporary reason for hair loss. For example, Thyroid hormonal imbalance can cause hair loss and a drop in estrogen levels in women before and after childbirth, and menopause can also cause hair loss.
  5. Diseases or Infections: Diseases or Infections, such as eczema, skin infections or trauma, are the major reason for noticing hair loss.

What can I do If my hair is falling out?

To prevent hair loss, it is important to start focusing on your general health. If your body is in a good state, your chances of suffering from hair loss will decrease. Focus on your diet and stop smoking if your hair loss reason is stress. It will reverse the issue without getting any further hair loss treatment or improve the success rate of hair loss treatment.

A correct hair loss diagnosis is required to understand whether you will be benefited from any treatment option available or not. About two-thirds of people (men and women) suffering from hair loss issues undergo some form of treatment without a proper hair loss diagnosis or spend a large amount on shampoos, lotions, and medicines that don’t work for them. So, to save your time, money, and hair, you should get a correct hair loss diagnosis.

At DHI India, treatment options are personalised to individual requirements based on sound medical knowledge and experience. DHI will offer an accurate diagnosis, answer all your related questions, and guide you with the right treatment options. It will help you save every penny you might invest in getting the wrong treatment.

Telogen Effluvium

As per many leading Trichologists or hair specialists, the frequency of reactive hair loss is increasing day by day. The reactive hair loss is known as Telogen Effluvium. Hair thinning and occasional hair fall are parts of the natural hair growth cycle and ageing. However, nowadays, many young people complain about excessive hair shedding in a particular area. It may occur because more hair follicles are going into the telogen or resting stage of the hair growth cycle or type of “Shock” to the follicles.

As the dynamics of living life have changed, more and more people are moving towards narrower diets. Even there has been a drastic increase in social and professional stress levels. These are the major reasons for noticing an increase in hair thinning problems among people. Let’s talk about Telogen Effluvium, its causes, and related prevention and treatments.

Telogen Effluvium (TE) is the type of hair thinning that we typically notice on the top of the scalp. This problem is more common among women. It occurs because more hair follicles start going into the resting or telogen stage of the hair growth cycle. A person suffering from Telogen Effluvium notices excessive shedding. Various factors cause this kind of reduction in the number of hair follicles.

Hair specialists face a lot of challenges while diagnosing Telogen Effluvium as it is the onset of noticeable hair shedding that can happen for several months after undergoing any significant or stressful event and change in diet. Additionally, the Fad diets and increase in veganism and vegetarianism can cause Telogen Effluvium among women.

To promote natural growth and stay healthy, hair requires protein, nutrients, and minerals. When the body is not getting these essential elements, hair growth suffers. The hair follicles will start starving for these elements and be forced into the resting and then shedding stage. This entire cycle takes between 2-4 months, and the hair loss is noticed much faster than its actual cause.

People Suffer from Telogen Effluvium because of these key reasons:

  • Excessive Stress
  • Emotional Shock
  • Illness or Infection
  • Imbalanced Diet
  • A diet lacking in sufficient protein, nutrients, and minerals.

If you suffer from hair loss, think about what event happened approximately 3 months prior. Were you grieving, or did you endure another very stressful event? Did you go on a juice fast? Or perhaps you were ill.

What should you do to treat or prevent Telogen Effluvium?

The first step to preventing Telogen Effluvium is to add enough protein and nutrients to your diet. Secondly, you must focus on the factor that your body is absorbing enough nutrients to trigger excessive hair shedding. Even the minor nutrient deficiencies in your body can decrease the survival and withhold of hair. People suffering from this kind of hair loss otherwise appear healthy and fit. Other ways to treat Telogen Effluvium are:

  • Promoting a healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly, looking after yourself, and reducing stress levels.
  • Ensure to get the correct TE diagnosis before sticking to treatment.
  • Seek specialist advice and medical diagnosis before assuming that you have TE.

What Causes Hair Loss in Women?

Hair loss has a big impact on women when compared to men. And as a woman, when you get aware of the hair loss problem, the first question that strikes your mind is whether it is temporary or permanent. In cases like pregnancy or illness, hair thinning is temporary. Even the stress-related loss of hair has become very common because of the ever-busy environment and high standard expectations. Then additional stress caused due to hair thinning can cause further stress. This cycle continues till the stress levels are managed in your body.

Just like men, the most common reason for hair loss in women is Androgenetic Alopecia. It is a genetic problem where women inherit the androgens (male hormones) on the scalp hair follicles. However, women suffering from this kind of hair loss never develop true baldness. The female patterns of Androgenetic Alopecia look different from male patterns of Androgenetic Alopecia.

Women have less obvious “Patterns” of hair loss than men. The non-pattern hair fall is more frequent among women. The solution to this problem is to seek professional advice from a hair loss specialist at the right time. Mostly, female hair loss can easily be treated, but still, self-diagnosis could worsen the situation. According to specialists, female pattern hair loss can begin between the early teen years and early twenties. If left untreated, this kind of hair loss can lead to more advanced hair loss in future.

Female Hair Loss Patterns:

  • The most commonly noticed “patterns” or areas of hair loss are as follows:
  • Diffuse thinning over the entire scalp but is noticeable towards the backside.
  • Diffuse thinning of hair over the entire scalp but is more noticeable towards the front side of the scalp.
  • Diffuse thinning of the entire scalp but is more noticeable towards the front and involves breaching of the hairline.

Hair thinning among women caused due to androgenetic alopecia doesn’t grow smaller in diameter than in men. Women tend to notice miniaturising hair of variable diameter throughout the affected area. Other than androgenetic alopecia, miniaturising of hair is also associated with other causes. For example, women in their post-menopausal years also notice miniaturizing of hairs that are difficult to style. Accurate female hair loss diagnosis by hair restoration specialists is required to solve this problem.

The Psychological Effects of Hair Loss

Until you start losing your hair, you probably don’t appreciate how much it contributes to your sense of self. In today’s ‘selfie society’ we are constantly reminded of our appearance and are bombarded by pictures of young, fit, and good-looking people. If what you see in the mirror every morning reminds you that you aren’t as young as you used to be, it can be pretty devastating.

Hair loss leaves negative psychological effects, such as an imbalance in confidence and self-esteem. It is seen in both men and women. Many people mention that they have become socially withdrawn because of the fear of getting judged for their appearance and feeling embarrassed. Many men associate having a full head of hair with masculinity and virility, and feeling that you are becoming less masculine because your hair is thinning has some fairly profound consequences.

Men with hair loss problems report higher levels of depression, aggression, and anxiety than normal. However, it’s undeniable that stress triggers hair loss even more and worsens the problem. These psychological effects of hair loss can directly impact self-image and social relationships. According to a study, about 40% of women reported problems in their marriage, and 63% of men reported career-related difficulties due to hair loss issues.

The best thing is that there are some special treatments for hair loss related issues. Those who underwent the treatment reported feeling positive and confident again. They gained their self-esteem back. If your hair loss is impacting you psychologically, you can come and talk to us. We can help you with the best treatment options for hair loss.

FUT, FUE, DHI - Hair Transplant Differences Explained

Hair Transplant performed without a careful consultation can impact your appearance for various reasons. It can offer unnatural results, the follicle survival rate can be low or worse, the donor site can be damaged, and many other things can happen if the correct surgery is not performed on you. Therefore, it is important to make the right decision when considering hair transplant treatment. The first and most important step is to select the right hair transplant provider. The hair transplant surgeon who will perform the surgery will help you get natural-looking results and protect your donor area from shock.

We have explained the difference between FUT, FUE, and DHI hair transplant methods and why DHI is the most effective and trustworthy hair transplant technique.

Different Methods Explained:

  • Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT): Follicular Unit Transplant is the traditional hair transplant technique in which the thin strip from the lower part of the back of the scalp is taken. The hair follicles on the strip are then divided into single units using the microscope. These are then implanted in the bald area. The donor area, from where the strip was removed from the scalp, is then sewn to avoid infection. This is the cheapest hair transplant technique where the extraction phase is quickest than other hair transplant techniques. However, it can leave scars where the strip was removed and can be very painful.
  • Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): Follicular Unit Extraction is another hair transplant technique where the punch is involved in creating smaller circular cuts around the hair follicles or group of follicles in the skin. The hair follicles are then removed from the scalp while leaving the small open holes. This process is repeated until the treatment area is covered. Here, the extraction can be done both manually (by a doctor) or motorised (using a machine). The manual method causes fewer traumas than the motorised option. The holes created in this process heal with time, leaving the white scars. Even though the healing process is quicker and the scars are less visible than the FUT technique, it can also take about 2-3 weeks to heal.
The hair follicles are implanted following the same method in FUT and FUE. The reception holes are created in the treatment area, and the hair follicles are placed into the holes. The whole process is performed using forceps, which gives the specialists control over angle, direction, and depth. Mostly, the implantation process is performed by technicians and not by a doctor. During these techniques, the follicle survival rate after implantation depends on how many follicles are extracted and how the technique is performed. Also, the survival rate can be judged a few weeks after the transplant.
  • Direct Hair Implantation (DHI): Direct hair transplant is the latest and most trustworthy technique, where results are guaranteed. DHI extraction, also known as micro-FUE, doesn’t involve cutting the candidate’s skin. It involves punches of 1mm or less in diameter that help the doctor to extract hairs one by one from the donor site. The minimally invasive DHI extraction process is only performed by DHI Certified doctors from start to end to offer high-quality results. Also, the specialised tool used during the extraction process is designed to minimise damage caused to hair follicles and surrounding scalp tissues.
The extracted hair follicles are stored in Hypothermosol (a growth solution) at a decided temperature to ensure that they offer optimum development and growth after the implantation process. Hypothermosol is generally used during major organ transplantation. It helps in maximising the hair survival rate after the procedure.
Hair follicles are implanted into the treatment area using DHI Implanters (another specialised tool), which offer better control of the depth, direction, and angle of the placement to the DHI certified doctor. It ensures natural results from the transplant. The DHI procedure doesn’t involve the creation of recipient holes and helps the doctor to offer higher hair density.
The DHI hair transplant technique is a tested and standardised method, which takes the best approach in every step of the procedure to ensure maximum patient comfort, no scarring, and 100% natural-looking results, guaranteed.

Why Is the DHI Technique Considered Superior?

  1. Performed by DHI Certified Doctors and not technicians or assistants
    • DHI Technique is performed by DHI doctors, who are trained and certified through London Hair Restoration Academy to ensure consistency and quality results.
  2. High Survival rate
    • The minimum handling of hair follicles ensures consistency throughout the process.
    • The DHI technique survival rate is more than 95%, while the industry’s survival rate falls between 50% and 90%.
    • Fewer donor hairs with a better survival rate are used during the procedure.
    • The body hair corrections and scar tissue corrections can be performed through the DHI technique.
  3. Patented Technique
    • DHI is the patented and most delicate hair transplant method that involves no scalpels, stitches, pain, or detectable scarring.
    • The recovery time is short, and the candidate can return to work the next day of the surgery.
    • Signs of the treatment are undetectable after a week of the surgery.
    • No need to shave the head to perform the technique.
  4. Hypothermosol.
    • While hair follicles are out of candidates’ bodies, they are kept in a special preservative solution called Hypothermosol. It is commonly used during organ transplants and enhances the survival rate. This solution is important for offering consistency in the hair survival rate.
    • DHI is India’s only hair transplant clinic to use Hypothermosol during hair restoration procedures. This allows doctors to sustain up to a 100% hair survival rate.
  5. Natural Results.
    • The hair implantation procedure is performed using DHI Implanter, a special tool that offers full control of angle, depth, and direction to the DHI doctor.
    • The results from a hair transplant are guaranteed to look natural and indistinguishable.

What Makes a Suitable Candidate for a Hair Transplant?

The correct diagnosis is the initial step to determining if you are the right candidate for hair transplant surgery. More than one-third of people, including both men and women, suffering from hair loss try different treatments without getting a proper medical diagnosis. They spend a lot of their money on lotions, medications, and shampoos that don’t work for them. It leads to wasting their time and money without offering appropriate results.

DHI Treatment options are personalised to individual requirements, based on sound medical knowledge and experience.

The Hair Transplant procedure is suitable for people with good health. If hair loss affects your self-confidence and self-esteem, you can consider a hair transplant. You are not a suitable candidate for hair transplant if:

  • You have less hair in the donor area, and it couldn’t offer sufficient donor follicles.
  • The recipient area isn’t supporting the donor follicles.
  • You have unrealistic expectations from hair transplant or don’t know what to achieve from the procedure.
  • You are unwilling to undergo the whole procedure and follow post-operative care instructions offered by DHI Doctor.

Alternative Treatments Include:

  • PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma: PRP Treatment can thicken hair and stimulate new hair growth. A small amount of blood is taken and the blood cells removed to leave behind the plasma, containing growth factors and nutrients stimulating follicle activity. The plasma is injected into the scalp, where hair loss occurs to improve hair growth.
  • Scalp Micropigmentation: Scalp Micropigmentation procedure covers the bald area and increases the hair density. This non-toxic pigment is applied to the bald area and in a series of small dots that stimulates the hair follicles. It colours the scalp and gives an illusion of higher hair density. It is a good option for people who are not suitable for the hair transplant procedure.
  • Hair prosthesis: Hair prosthesis, like a wig or hairpiece, cover the hair loss or bald area.
If a hair transplant isn’t right for you just yet, or you are just looking for prevention or thickening up your hair, then growth factor therapy could be right for you.
  • Growth Factor Therapy Treatment: Growth Factor Treatment is a revolutionary new treatment method for patients suffering from alopecia. Treatment takes place through the injection of autologous serum into the scalp; to stimulate the scalp to endorse hair growth. Growth Factor Therapy treatment contains four times the amount of growth factors versus PRP.

Science Behind Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)

DHI has been treating hair loss internationally for over four decades. The Indian hair transplant industry has pioneered the FUE and FUT methods but was not happy with the hair follicle’s survival rate. Most of the damage done during the procedure was due to excessive or mishandling of hair follicles. And if a high proportion of follicles didn’t survive, many more follicles had to be implanted to achieve the desired density of hair growth. Several factors decide the results of a hair transplant:

  • How were the hair follicles extracted?
  • How were extracted hair follicles treated while waiting for implantation?
  • How were hair follicles implanted?

DHI designed the new tools to reduce the damage during the extraction and implantation stages. These tools have a smaller diameter, less than 1mm, which offers the doctors better handling of hair follicles and increases the chances of hair follicles to fit tighter in their new location. The extracted hair follicles are also preserved in the special growth solution, known as Hypothermosol, at a decided temperature during the waiting time. It reduces the manipulation between the extraction and implantation stage and allows them to survive outside the body.
By doing this, DHI has increased the follicle survival rate to an exceptionally high level. According to some trustworthy studies conducted by universities, the DHI Procedures offer 97% of hair survival rates.

The DHI Difference

  1. Diagnosis: A correct diagnosis before the hair transplant can increase the success rate and permanency of the results. DHI procedure is associated with a thorough diagnosis that helps DHI doctors to determine more about the candidate. It is accompanied by 4 different factors:
    • Medical
    • Mathematical ( hair follicles ratio on donor area)
    • Psychological
    • Artistic/Aesthetic
  2. Attention to Detail: Hair follicles grow in different angles and directions out of the scalp. DHI Implanter, DHI specially designed tool, helps DHI doctors to control the depth, direction, and angle during the implantation stage and help new hairs to look and grow naturally.
  3. Quality: The Direct Hair Implantation procedure is performed by only DHI Certified Doctors from start to end. No nurses or technicians are allowed to touch you. DHI Staff follows strict quality control protocols and procedures to ensure high-quality standards. Each DHI Clinics follow the same protocols and procedure, and every DHI doctor gets the best training from London Hair Restoration Academy.
  4. Survival vs Success: Success of the hair transplant procedure is measured by the survival rate. DHI clinics achieve over 95% of hair survival rate from each procedure, while the industry’s survival rate is 50%-90%. A greater number of implanted hair survives, which decreases the number of donor follicles during the extraction stage
  5. No Scars or Stitches: Smaller diameter tools are used by DHI Doctors that cause less trauma and less pain and promote faster healing.
  6. Permanent and natural results: The donor follicles used in the DHI procedure have a rare loss rate and are genetically programmed to survive. It allows the new hair to grow naturally for a lifetime.

What To Expect

Before moving forward with the hair transplantation procedure, the initial consultation will occur. Here, the DHI Doctor or the consultant will examine your scalp and the type of hair loss. Also, your expectations and the possible options for the hair transplant will be discussed. This will help our team to understand more about you. If you are a good candidate for the hair transplant procedure, the doctor will discuss and decide on other factors for the procedure. If you are not a suitable candidate, the doctor will discuss other options.

Before a Treatment

Good preparation for any surgical procedure reduces the risk of complications. In the case of hair transplant, doctors ensure that infection, excessive bleeding, poor healing, scarring, or reaction to the anaesthetic doesn’t involve. Also, these risks can be minimised if the candidate is in good general health and has no pre-existing medical conditions. While considering all the factors, the pre-operative instructions are offered to the candidate.

Some of the instructions include:
  • No smoking for two weeks before the hair transplant.
  • Get the important blood test done (HIV, general health, and blood clotting). A person over 45 years of age or with any heart problem will have to get the ECG done. The test results should be provided to the clinic at least 7 days before the hair transplant procedure.
  • Avoid using Minoxidil, steroids, or vitamins at least 7 days before the hair transplant.
  • Requirement to consume Tranexamic Acid, a medicine that controls bleeding, for 3 days before the procedure.
  • Avoid the consumption of any medicine that thins the blood, like heparin, aspirin, or warfarin.
  • Consider dyeing the hairs in a darker colour 2 days before the procedure. It will help the doctors to see the hair easily.
  • Use anti-dandruff shampoo for a week before the procedure.
  • Avoid shaving your head a week before the hair transplant procedure.

During a Treatment

You will be given a local anaesthetic to numb the scalp before the treatment begins and you will be lying down, or lying back for the procedure. The doctor will mark out the treatment area and once the anaesthetic starts to work, the procedure can begin.

The first phase is follicle extraction. The follicles are removed one by one and placed in the growth solution at 4°C until transplant. Up to 4500 hairs can be transplanted per session. Sessions typically last from 6 hours to 2 days.

When all the follicles are collected, the surgeon implants them in the marked areas using the specialised DHI implanter tool. The implanter tool controls the placement's depth, direction, and angle so that the hair blends in naturally with those around it.

After Treatment

Following the instructions provided by the hair transplant clinic or doctor ensures the best results from the procedure. DHI Clinics provide the post-operative pack, which contains sterile saline to keep the treated area moist and the medications to avoid inflammations and risk of infection. Here is the list of some post-treatment instructions candidates have to follow:

  • Not allowed to smoke or consume alcohol for 7 days after the treatment to ensure a faster recovery.
  • Don’t sleep on the treated area for the first 2 nights to avoid the graft rubbing on your pillow. The friction may cause the grafted hair to fall out.
  • Avoid sun exposure and swimming for 2 weeks after the procedure.
  • Avoid intense exercise for a month after the procedure.
  • Apply Minoxidil (5%) cream twice a day onto the dry scalp ten days after the treatment.
  • For a month after the procedure, don’t apply any chemicals to the scalp, including hair products, anti-dandruff shampoo, and more.
  • Avoid using hair colour for at least 45 days after the procedure.

Additionally, DHI recommends Heal light or LED light treatments immediately with post-treatment instructions. A course of 6 treatments, with 48-72 hours between each treatment, promotes healing of the donor area and recipient skin.

You will need to visit the clinic for follow-up over the next 12 months. If you can’t get back to the clinic, we can make the appointment via Skype or telephone. However, if you have any questions or you notice anything unexpected, don’t hesitate to contact us immediately for advice.

People usually notice that new hair growth stops a month after the hair transplant. It is completely normal. The hair growth will normalise 3-4 months after the procedure. The difference can be noticed after 6 months, and the complete results will become visible between 9-12 months.

The healing stage requires patience, and following the instructions carefully will make sure you get the best results and a quick recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

DHI has answered the most commonly asked questions related to Hair Transplants. However, if you have any other questions and want personalised information, book a consultation with DHI Experts.

No. DHI protocols don’t require you to shave your head. We suggest the candidate not shave their head for at least 10 days before the hair transplant procedure.

Mostly, the candidate can return to work the next day after the DHI hair transplant while following the post-operative routine. However, many of our clients prefer to take a week off after the procedure. You can choose as per your convenience.

The complete results from a hair transplant can take up to 9-12 months. However, you will notice improvement within 3-4 months after undergoing the procedure.

Yes. DHI procedure can help both men and women.

You can proceed with cardio and swimming 2 weeks after the procedure. For intense exercising and weight lifting, you have to wait for a month.

If you have enough hair on the donor site for the extraction process, you can go for the DHI hair transplant. In case you don’t have enough hair on your head, DHI doctors sometimes also use facial or body hair. If none of the above works, you can select other treatment options available.

Implanted hair will grow and regenerate normally with time. Therefore, there is no need to consume medications in the long run. However, you must consume the medications for a decided period of time, as mentioned in your post-treatment instructions.

Cost

The most common question the DHI team comes across during the consultation phase is, “How much does it cost?” The answer to this question is so much more than just numbers. The overall cost of a hair transplant depends on the surgeon’s experience, desired results, latest technology, an indicator of quality and much more. Many people choose the cheap hair transplant clinic and have to face poor-quality services that don’t offer desired results. Some of them have to get a hair transplant twice for fix up or replacement.

DHI India has explained the major component that decides the hair transplant cost. Depending on them, you can decide the worth of a hair transplant.

Cost Components of a Hair Transplant:

For many people, the base cost of a hair transplant depends on the number of grafts (hair follicles) involved in the procedure. It is somehow true, but not completely. The larger number of grafts doesn’t always offer a better value for money. In older hair transplant techniques, more donor hair follicles were involved, but their results were inaccurate, and the cost was also not well defined. The results can only be obtained with the right technique, it doesn't matter how many follicles are harvested. At DHI, we have seen many candidates coming and following a botched procedure with little to no option for the remedial procedure due to the damage inflicted or the “over-harvesting” of the donor area. So, the cost depends not only on the number of grafts implanted but also on the method used during the procedure.

Method of Follicle Extraction and Implantation:

The old methods for extracting the healthy hair follicles were FUT and FUE. However, both these methods are used to cause scars to the donor site, impact the follicle survival rate, and leave an unnatural look. To solve this problem, the research and development team decided to focus on the DHI extraction and implantation method. This helped them offer 100% natural results with no scars and no visible traces of surgery.

Risks & Complications

Every surgical procedure is associated with some risks and potential complications, like excessive bleeding, poor wound healing, scarring, and infection. These risks and complications can be minimised by properly maintaining good health and following the pre-and post-operative instructions.

Sometimes, people complain about hair standing straight up on end, poor hair follicle survival rate, damage to the donor site, pain, and scars; these are caused by the bad hair transplant. To avoid them, you must choose the right hair transplant clinic and treatment for yourself.

Hair transplant directly makes you look good and improves your self-esteem and confidence. So, don’t risk the results by choosing a cheap procedure. You can book the consultation with the hair transplant experts and discuss everything with them. Depending on the favorability of the answers, the doctor’s knowledge and experience, and the clinic’s portfolio, you can make a decision.

Warning Signs from Hair Transplant:

When researching hair transplantation options, always focus on a few factors that play a major role in ensuring the best results. Here are a few points you should keep in mind while researching:

  • Results: A bad hair transplant can make your transplanted hair look like a wig. Some clinics ask the technicians rather than doctors to perform the procedure as it saves cost. In some cases, the procedure is performed by two different people, which can end up with half a head of hair implanted at one angle and the other half at a different angle. Always check the before and after results of the clinic before visiting it.
  • Care of the Follicles: Care of the follicles is very important during the extraction and implantation phase. It decided the survival rate and success rate. There should be minimal handling of the hair follicles, and special tools are used for them. Also, the hair follicles should be stored in the growth solution during the waiting time.
  • Care of the Donor Area: Scarring in the donor area poses two significant issues: the scar may be visible under short hair, and the damage may result in inadequate follicles being available for use if a second transplant is needed.

What’s Different About DHI

  • Procedures are done from start to finish by a Certified Doctor, not technicians, to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Minimum handling of hair follicles results in a high survival rate, consistently over 90%, and fewer donor hairs are needed. DHI is the only hair restoration clinic in India that use Hypothermosol in hair transplants. This sustains the survival rate of the hair up to 100%.
  • Patented technique - the most delicate hair transplant method. No scalpels, no stitches, virtually pain-free, no detectable scarring, short recovery time.
  • Natural results GUARANTEED.

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is considered the latest and most advanced technique for performing hair transplants. It involves no detectable scarring, stitches, or scalpels and is a very comfortable procedure performed in a single sitting. In this procedure, the hair follicles are extracted from the donor area using the 1mm diameter specialised tool designed for performing the extraction process.

DHI is the only Indian hair transplant clinic to store the extracted hair graft in Hypothermosol, a growth solution that helps DHI doctors to sustain a 100% graft survival rate. The grafts are implanted using DHI implanters that offer DHI doctors full control over hair follicles' direction, density, depth, and angle and ensure 100% natural results.

Experience and Qualifications:

Hair transplantation procedures can be performed by technicians, assistants, robots, or doctors. The best results can be attained when the doctors perform the procedure. As every individual is different and has different hair transplant requirements, the procedure should be customised for each of them.

Certified DHI Doctors perform DHI hair transplants from start to end. DHI Certified Doctors undergo stringent testing and certification through the London Hair Restoration Academy with ongoing training to ensure their skills, knowledge, and experience are cutting-edge. The first step for a successful hair transplant is an overall hair loss diagnosis.

Technology:

DHI hair transplant procedure involves patented techniques and tools, which help DHI doctors to offer optimum results. To achieve the most delicate hair transplant method that can offer 100% natural results, extensive research and development have been invested.

Facilities and Patient Care

DHI India ensures that you feel comfortable and be in good hands from the time you enter the clinic to the time you come for the last follow-up appointment. Patient care and the best facilities are our priority.

Length of Surgery

A normal hair transplant procedure can take between 6 to 10 hours in one sitting. DHI doctors don’t rush the procedure to ensure precise and natural results during the implantation procedures.

Questions You need to ask

The hair Transplant procedure offers lifelong and 100% natural results. When selecting the clinic, your focus should not be on price, as it may drive you into regret. When selecting the hair transplant clinic, you should look for answers to these questions:

  • What is the total cost of a hair transplant? Will I need another hair transplant procedure? Is there any additional cost involved?
  • Do you offer natural results?
  • Who will perform the hair transplant? What are their qualifications and experience?
  • Are there any before and after results pictures of your past candidates?
  • Do you offer post-surgery instructions?
  • When can I return to work after a hair transplant?
  • Will the procedure involve any scars?
